It’s Banga Baby: The New York DJ Behind Banga Bash

Banga is a hair stylist and DJ out of Brooklyn, NY. She and her friends work together to enhance each other’s brands using their many artistic talents. We spent the day with Banga as she prepared for and hosted Banga Bash Vol. IV. And, with everything she had going on, she still made sure to show up to support (and DJ) @jelleneisabel’s photography exhibit at The Ketchup Gallery.

Inspired by her own desire to hear the type of music she loves and not the typical menu of spins that you’ll usually get at a party, Banga used her birthday to launch her own headlining event — Banga Bash — an open format party dedicated to deep cuts, blend flips and gems. For those unfamiliar with the lingo, an open format DJ, also known as a multi-genre DJ, plays and mixes a variety of music styles to cater for a wide range of audiences.

This was her fourth Banga Bash and proceeds from this event are to be used to offer assistance to Puerto Rico & Dominican Republic as their communities have been devastated by Hurricane Fiona. In our interview, she stated, “I have a lot of friends who are Puerto Rican and Dominican and I was like, ‘You know, we always out partying, we might as well party with a purpose.’”
