Tasha McCaskiel is Building Bridges for Black Women in Media & Tech

When Tasha McCaskiel graduated and returned home, she expected to launch her career in media, but the industry had other plans. Like many Black women navigating corporate spaces, she found herself struggling to break in. The opportunities felt scarce and the networks felt inaccessible, but instead of waiting for a seat at the table, she built her own.
In 2018, she launched Black Girls in Media (BGIM), a community driven platform designed to connect and elevate Black women in media. What began as a GroupMe chat has grown into a global movement with over 90,000 members. Through networking events, mentorship programs, and industry partnerships, BGIM has become a vital resource for women aspiring to make their mark in media.
“Empowering minority women isn’t just about diversity; it’s about enriching perspectives and amplifying voices. As a business owner, I’m committed to providing opportunities that fuel their growth and success in media. Together, we’re not just breaking barriers; we’re building bridges to a more inclusive future.”

Code & Content: Media Meets Tech
Tasha’s latest venture is Code & Content: A Tech and Media Networking Night, a collaboration between BGIM and Baddies in Tech. Set to take place in New York City during Women’s History Month, this event is a strategic collision of industries.
In partnership with Dotdash Meredith (the media-tech powerhouse behind People, Entertainment Weekly, and InStyle) and Morning Brew (the go-to business newsletter for Wall Street and Silicon Valley), Code & Content is designed to forge meaningful connections between women in media and tech. The event is packed with opportunities to network, learn from industry leaders, and explore career pathways in an environment built for and by women of color.
