Solange Knowles’ Shakersss.mov is A Love Letter to Self, Spirit, & Water

Solange Knowles has always communicated in a language of her own. Whether through music, movement, or the visual world she meticulously crafts, her art is always deeply personal.
Her latest project is no exception. A self-documented, VHS-style short film, Shakersss.mov is an intimate meditation on identity, spirituality, and the ever-present force of water. It’s a devotional film rooted in reflection.

Shot across Yucatán, Miami, and New York, Shakersss.mov plays like a visual diary. It’s raw, Solange in her own world, moving through rituals of dance, prayer, and stillness. She dedicates the film to self-discovery, using light, water, and movement as tools to see herself clearly.
Water is both a subject and a guide, symbolizing resilience, renewal, and an unbreakable bond to ancestry. Solange describes the film as a reminder “that light always reveals itself” and that “if you water the questions enough, answers will rise within you with unshakable faith.”

While much of Shakersss.mov is introspective, it also makes space for joy. In what appears to be a New York function, we see Solange partying with friends, including JT from City Girls and singer Ari Lennox. A reminder that community is just as sacred as solitude.
This balance of intimacy and exuberance is what makes Shakersss.mov compelling. Solange doesn’t try to explain anything. She just exists in motion, allowing us to witness, absorb, and feel.
