Amerie Makes Her Literary Debut with A Story About A Ghost

Amerie, the multi-platinum singer/songwriter behind some of the most iconic R&B hits of the 2000s, is stepping into a new creative realm and adding “author” to her resume.
She announced her debut novel, THIS IS NOT A GHOST STORY, revealing the cover for the first time. Set to release on June 10, 2025, this book marks an exciting new chapter in Amerie’s career, one that showcases her storytelling beyond music.
No amateur to the worlds of literature, Amerie has written short stories and has been building a community of book lovers via Amerie’s Book Club, “a modern book club for the modern reader,” since at least 2019.

Now, she’s taking it up a notch with her first published book.
In this novel, Amerie takes on deep themes of identity and self-worth, offering readers an emotional and thought-provoking journey through the lens of a supernatural narrative.
THIS IS NOT A GHOST STORY centers around a Black man who becomes the first person to return from the Other Side, but Amerie makes it clear, this is not your typical ghost story. “It is not a ghost story, but it is a story about a ghost,” she says during her social announcement.
At its core, the novel is an exploration of identity and self-acceptance. Through the protagonist’s supernatural journey, the story explores deep questions about how we see ourselves, the world around us, and our place within it.
Amerie has shared that the book is about more than just the paranormal experience of life after death, and as readers follow the protagonist on his path, they will encounter themes of love, self-discovery, and the importance of found families—the kind of relationships that transform us and shape our lives in unexpected ways.
Amerie’s book is for lovers of introspective fiction, anyone interested in stories that challenge the way we perceive ourselves and the world.
